San Jose Man Arrested For Alleged Rape, Attempted Rapes

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - Police have arrested a 24-year-old San Jose man they suspect of raping one woman and trying to rape another twice since August.

Police said they arrested Ulysses Rios on Oct. 17 when he went to see his probation officer.

Rios is accused of offering a 59-year-old woman a ride from Monterey Road in August, then taking her to a home by force and trying to rape her, police said.

The woman was able to escape, but on Oct. 4 near Monterey Road and Curtner Avenue, Rios allegedly saw the same woman again and propositioned her.

When the woman said no and tried to take a photo of Rios' license plate with her cell phone, he attacked her and tried to take it, police said.

Police said other people in the area saw the incident occurring and helped the woman, who then reported the crime.

Rios then fled, according to police.

But days later on Oct. 11, police say they believe Rios offered a ride to another woman near Blossom Hill Road and Snell Avenue.

After the 20-year-old woman got in Rios' car, he took her to a remote area and raped her, police said.

Then, police said, Rios brought the woman back to the area of Blossom Hill Road and let her go. She then called police and gave them Rios' license plate number.

In their investigation, police found that Rios was on probation for felony hit-and-run and had previously been cited for urinating in public.

Police arrested Rios on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping, rape, and attempted robbery.

Police also said they believe that Rios may have tried to rape other women in the past and encourage anyone with information about previous incidents to call the sexual assault investigations unit at (408) 277-4102.
