San Jose Man Allegedly Took 100 Pounds Of Marijuana On Cross-Country Flight
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – A San Jose man has been arrested in Massachusetts for allegedly transporting 100 pounds of marijuana on a commercial flight from the Bay Area to Boston.
According to a statement from Massachusetts State Police, 31-year-old Trang Pham was arrested on suspicion of marijuana trafficking after arriving at Logan International Airport Wednesday afternoon.
State Police said they received intelligence from authorities in a Boston suburb about a man on a Delta Air Lines flight from San Francisco International Airport to Boston who would be carrying a "large amount of marijuana."
The flight arrived around 5:00 p.m. Eastern. Authorities confronted Pham as he exited the plane. Zeva, a Belgian Malinois K-9, was brought in to investigate Pham's suitcases, which led authorities to obtain a search warrant.
The dogs are known for their keen sense of smell and are relied on by military and law enforcement.
When the warrant was executed, authorities said they discovered the marijuana, packaged in heat-sealed plastic wrap. It is unclear how the suitcases were able to get past security at SFO.
According to CBS affiliate WBZ-TV in Boston, Pham was arraigned on Thursday.
