San Jose Earthquakes Beat Chicago Fire, 2-0
SANTA CLARA (AP) -- Chris Wondolowski scored one goal and assisted on the other as the San Jose Earthquakes broke a franchise-record, 13-match winless streak with a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Fire on Saturday night.
Wondolowski scored in the 10th minute for the Earthquakes (6-10-11), who preserved their slim playoff hopes with their first victory since June 11. San Jose was 0-6-7 since. Wondolowski's goal was his 10th goal of the season, moved him into a three-way tie for third place on the league's scoring list.
Corrales added an insurance score in the 69th minute as San Jose moved five points out of playoff position with seven matches remaining.
Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson made three big second-half saves on Wondolowski, the MLS' leading scorer in 2010.
