San Jose City Leaders React To Promising Student's Violent Death
SAN JOSE (KCBS) — San Jose city leaders are reacting to the death of Kimberly Chico, a promising nursing student, who was hit by a stray bullet over the weekend. She was a passenger in a car travelling in the city's downtown area just as bars were letting out when she was hit.
Chico was a second-year nursing student at San Jose State University where friends said she was a straight 'A' student after she had attended Independence High. She had already qualified as a certified nursing assistant.

City Councilman Sam Liccardo said hearing the victim had such great promise is like a kick in the gut.
Meanwhile Mayor Chuck Reed called the incident a terrible tragedy and it is the city's 30th murder this year. Reed added that police are doing all they can do to deal with violence this summer.
"They have limited resources and they deploy those limited resources in a very effective way and they're doing a good job of trying to protect our community.
Reed called on the community to help track down the person or persons responsible.
