San Jose City Council's Diridon Station Vote Could Vastly Change Landscape
SAN JOSE (KCBS)— San Jose City Council is poised to vote on a plan to transform the city's train station over the next few years with the surrounding area as the main focus. The Diridon Station Area Plan would vastly change the landscape in the creation of a world-class transit hub.
Mayor Chuck Reed said the city is being asked to approve a plan for the neighboring community.

"The Diridon Plan is what to do around the station to capture the opportunities there when you have the BART station, the high-speed rail station, Caltrain and half a dozen other transportation networks that connect there," Reed said.
The Diridon Plan includes calls for creation of an urban village that would link homes, jobs, and stores through sidewalks and bike lanes rather than roads and highways. The plan also calls for a large civic plaza that would serve as the station's anchor, as well as plans to restore nearby Los Gatos Creek.
