San Jose City Council Redraws Districts
SAN JOSE (KCBS) -- As a citizens' panel begins the process of redrawing California's legislative districts, the state's cities are again looking at their own political maps.
San Jose is redrawing its city council districts, something that happens once a decade. This could have a big impact on the balance of power at San Jose City Hall.
KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
Based on the new census numbers, districts will be redrawn, so that each area of the city has a roughly equal population. That means the residents on the borders could find themselves in a new district, which might affect who gets elected.
The council is scheduled to appoint people to a redistricting advisory commission by January 11. According to the San Jose Mercury News, the commission will be asked to draw districts that don't divide school districts or fragment ethnic communities.
