San Jose City Council Expected to Approve Highway Congestion Funding
SAN JOSE (KCBS) — The San Jose City Council is expected to approve a proposal Tuesday to spend just over $4 million to ease traffic congestion on Highway 101.
Work is about halfway complete on the $83 million project, with phase one being the Tully Road Interchange. Next year work will start on the Capitol Expressway-Yerba Buena Road off ramps.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
San Jose Transportation Director Hans Larson said that it's one of the most congested areas in Silicon Valley.
"I'd say we've been working a good 20 years to upgrade this section of freeway and local interchanges," he said.
Council Member Rose Herrera who represents the area said they're still $7 million short for the overall project, but is optimistic the money will be found.
"It's going to get over the goal line and it's going to make it better for everybody living near this and everybody commuting up and down Highway 101," said Herrera.
The news is welcome on the ears of commuters who are often caught in the area in frustrating and long backups.
