San Jose Charity Running Low On Turkeys For Holiday Food Boxes
SAN JOSE (KCBS)— Dozens of needy families in San Jose lined up for Thanksgiving food boxes at Sacred Heart Community Services Monday morning, but the organization is still short by hundreds of turkeys.
Hundreds of families signed up in advance for the holiday food boxes, but Carol Stephenson, a spokeswoman for the organization, said they only have enough turkeys for those picking up their food boxes through Tuesday.
"We know a big drive is going to be dropped off tomorrow morning, so that will help us get started tomorrow, but then we're counting on the community to bring in a turkey or two, or ten, or donate online so we can buy whatever we come up short," she said.

The Catholic charity is expecting some 4,000 families in need this year. Stephenson said they could always throw a less expensive ham or a chicken in a food box, but 'Thanksgiving chicken' somehow doesn't have the same ring to it as a gobbler, and it can't feed as many people.
