San Jose Becomes Partying Spot For 49ers
SAN JOSE (CBS 5) -- Hours after earning a spot in the Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers were partying in a San Jose nightclub. The South Bay has become the team's home in more ways than one.
As first reported by the celebrity website TMZ, 49ers players rushed to the Motif Lounge in Downtown San Jose after returning to the Bay Area in the wee hours Monday morning. They were seen still wearing their NFC Championship caps and toasting their victory over the Falcons.
"The crowd was just going crazy, we had like at least 600-700 people here," Chris Dion of Motif Lounge told CBS 5. "I actually had to turn people away."
Team members may have picked Motif because some players have reportedly taken up residence in the luxury high-rise behind the South First Street nightclub zone.
"I guess I'd be really surprised, I never knew they would be around in downtown San Jose," said 49ers fan Brian Lanier.
"Because there are so many fun places to be in San Francisco, but it's cool that they like to be down here," said Sara Ketcham, also a 49ers fan.
Santa Clara is already home to the team's headquarters. In 2014, the 49ers are set to play in a brand new stadium next to the team facility and the Great America theme park.
Brendan Harrington of Lexus of Stevens Creek said he has sold cars to 49ers players and their coaches. He said the teams give a lot back to the area in return.
"The Niners have brought that a lot of excitement and interest down here. It's that buzz that creates excitement everywhere. We saw it with the Giants, we saw it with the Earthquakes, and now we see it with the Niners."
