San Jose Bank Teller Accused Of Staging Robbery

SAN JOSE (AP) -- A San Jose bank teller is facing charges for allegedly staging a robbery of his bank branch with an accomplice.

Police say 21-year-old Jose Luna pretended to be robbed while working at a Bank of America on Dec. 28, when a man walked up to the counter and handed Luna a note demanding cash.

Officer Jose Garcia told the San Jose Mercury News that the alleged robber, 20-year-old Steven Davis, was actually working with Luna.

Santa Clara County prosecutors say Luna and Davis have each been charged with one count of grand theft and other charges.

Police initially investigated the case as an actual robbery but became suspicious when bank officials said Luna failed to follow certain procedures for holdups.

Police say after Luna was arrested, Davis later surrendered with the undisclosed amount of money.

It was not known if they had retained attorneys.
