San Jose Airport Expected To Clear Way For $10M Taxiway Extension
SAN JOSE (KCBS)— A $10 million taxiway extension at Mineta San Jose
International Airport is about to be cleared for takeoff. The San Jose City Council is expected to approve the upgrade on Tuesday as part of an overall $55 million improvement project.
Its name is Taxiway Whiskey and extending it will make it a lot easier for controllers to move aircraft around the tarmac.
"This will allow controllers to get aircraft on and off the runway more quickly. It's not just extending Taxiway Whiskey, which is a long taxiway running parallel [to another runway] but also improving the cross taxiways," said airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes.
Barnes added the taxiway improvements are designed to support larger corporate jet aircraft.

"We'll see many more of these at Mineta San Jose International Airport once the signature flight-support facility is complete in about two years," she said.
Google aircraft will be the main tenant in that new executive terminal once completed.
