San Francisco's 'Wild Parrots' Set Up Colony On San Bruno Mountain
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) - The famous wild parrots of San Francisco's Telegraph Hill have joined the flight to the suburbs.
About a 100 or so of the green birds have been spotted on the slopes of San Bruno Mountain in Brisbane.
The birds likely migrated there in search of food. They have been spotted feeding on juniper and hawthorn berries.
A flock of the playful birds, meanwhile, can still be found around the northern edge of San Francisco, where they were made famous several years ago and have since become a tourist draw.
The birds are native to South America. The first of their kind in San Francisco likely escaped from a pet importer.
The cherry-headed conures were made famous by a book and film titled "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill."
