San Francisco's 7x7 Magazine Going Entirely Digital
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Another print magazine is going paperless.
The big glossy that touts itself as San Francisco's Premiere Magazine 7x7 is going entirely digital. The March issue will be the last one printed on paper.
The magazine's Editor-in-Chief Chloe Harris Hennen said online operations will continue "with a renewed focus."
"Print is our legacy and has been crucial to building th e7x7 brand. But our future is online," she said.
7x7 joins a growing number of print magazines that have gone entirely digital due to declining revenue -- Newsweek, PC World, Hello! – just to name a few.
According to the Alliance for Audited Media, single copy sales of magazines declined more than 10% between 2008 and 2013.
Last October, the San Francisco Bay Guardian shut down completely after 48 years, due to financial losses.
7x7's online audience is ten times the size of its print readership, according to Hennen. She said there will be some layoffs after the shift to digital, but did not specify how many.
The will be a few printed special editions each year including 7x7's annual City Guide.
