San Francisco YSL Store Window Smashed In Robbery
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- Police in San Francisco are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery at a YSL store in the city's Union Square Wednesday morning.
Officers responded at 4:39 a.m. to the 100 block of Geary Street on a report of a burglary and learned that a male suspect backed a vehicle into a store window at the Saint Laurent store, causing it to shatter.
The driver then got out and went into the store to steal a number of items, then got back into his vehicle and drove away west on Geary Street, according to police.
Yasir Kahn has worked security around Union Square for 11 years. He's contracted to work with several retailers here. "It never happened like that before. I'm surprised to see all that," he said.
Police investigators spent the morning combing the scene for evidence and collecting surveillance footage from some of the many cameras on Geary Street as people walking through the area stop to take photos of the damage.
"It's kind of scary to think that crime is escalating," said David Mabrie, who works two doors down from the store.
No arrest has been made and a detailed description of the suspect was not immediately available.
