San Francisco Transit Officials Plan Ahead For Doyle Drive Closure
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Golden Gate Bridge District officials are making plans for a weekend closure of Doyle Drive later this year, assuring drivers that there will be plenty of notice along with expanded bus and ferry service.
Caltrans hasn't set an exact date for the closure, but the idea is to switch to the new Doyle Drive structure, which is now under construction.
While the major thoroughfare to and from the Golden Gate Bridge is closed, Bridge District spokeswoman Mary Currie said that there will be double the normal number of buses and ferries between the city and Marin.
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
"We're working with the team at Caltrans now on a transportation plan, obviously, just like we do when the Bay Bridge closes," said Currie. "All the transportation offices get together and figure out what the options are in these situations."
Buses in Marin would take passengers to the Golden Gate Bridge, where they would board shuttles destined for key spots in San Francisco. The shuttles would be allowed to bypass the construction. Bus service from Sonoma will be re-routed through the East Bay.
