SF Supervisors Pass Resolution Urging Military Spending Cuts, End To Wars
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – San Francisco supervisors are once again considering a resolution regarding U.S. military policy - this time the issue is military spending.
Supervisors Monday considering adopting a resolution urging the military to reduce its budget, end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and redirect the money to needy here at home.
A number of anti-military activists spent about an hour before a supervisors' committee Monday speaking in favor of the resolution.
KCBS' Barbara Taylor Reports:
Supervisor John Avalos sponsored the measure and defends its merits. "This is a small resolution with a big message," said Avalos.
The resolution was passed out of committee with Supervisor Sean Elsbernd dissenting. It now goes to the full board.
San Franciscans have previously voted in favor of measures urging the U.S. military to withdraw troops from Iraq and opposing military recruiting in public schools.
President Obama has already said that U.S. troops will be home from Iraq by the end of the year.
