San Francisco Supervisors Mull Resolution In Support Of Marijuana Clubs
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Tuesday was poised to send a message to the federal government about medical marijuana by considering a resolution in support of medicinal cannabis dispensaries.
Last month the Justice Department said that it planned to close down medical marijuana clubs that are fronts for large-scale drug dealers.
KCBS' Barbara Taylor Reports:
Tuesday's resolution was written by Supervisor David Campos, and asks the feds to back off.
"We're asking the federal government to reconsider its bad policy and to actually respect the rights of patients to medicine," said Campos.
California voters legalized medical marijuana 15 years ago. While the supervisors are expected to approve this non-binding policy resolution, marijuana is still illegal under federal law, so the Justice Department is free to ignore it.
