San Francisco Supervisors Consider Health Care Master Plan
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - As the California Pacific Medical Center seeks major changes in its health delivery system, San Francisco Supervisors are looking at whether the city needs a master plan for health care.
CPMC wants to build a new hospital at Geary and Van Ness and reconfigure its other medical centers around San Francisco. Some critics said this would concentrate too many hospitals in one part of the city.
Supervisor David Campos said a citywide Health Care Services Master Plan is needed first.
KCBS' Barbara Taylor Reports:
"This is simply about making sure that as we go forward in light of the many changes that are happening in the health care industry that we in San Francisco make the best choices possible," he said.
Campos said his master plan isn't because of the big CPMC project, but California Pacific spokesman Kevin McCormack worried about the impact on the hospital plans.
"Our big concern right now is that this legislation is being rushed through," he said.
Several neighborhood activists who are pushing for a health master plan are worried about a reduction in services at St. Luke's Hospital which would be converted to an acute care facility.
