San Francisco Supervisor Announces Candidacy For State Assembly
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – San Francisco Supervisor David Campos has announced his candidacy for State Assembly District 17 and has nabbed an important endorsement.
The position is currently filled by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, who will be termed out of office next year. But Campos, who represents the city's Mission District, has already gained Ammiano's support.

Campos filed his papers on Thursday, accompanied by a few dozen school children and Assemblyman Ammiano himself.
"I'm going to leave Sacramento in a year and I would like to see David Campos take my place," Ammiano said.
Campos and Ammiano have a lot in common – they're both progressive and both gay – but Ammiano is a bit more of a "stand-up comedian" while Campos tends to be a little more serious.
"You bring to it your own flavor and Tom Ammiano is a hero," Campos said. "I'm really honored to have his support and will be proud to follow his footsteps."
Campos ran unopposed for re-election as a supervisor last year, but is expected to face tough competition this time around.
Among those also possibly eyeing the Assembly seat are Supervisors David Chiu and Malia Cohen.
