San Francisco, San Jose Invited To Submit Bids For 2024 Olympics
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Twenty-five cities, including San Francisco, San Jose, and Sacramento, have been invited by the U.S. Olympic Committee to submit bids for the Summer Olympics in 2024.
San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee's office said while they are interested in hosting the games, a decision is far off. The Bay Area has previously worked on bids to host the Olympics in 2012 and 2016, but lost out to other cities.
"Well, receiving a letter alone from the U.S. Olympic Committee is an honor. We are a city that the world looks to for international events, but we've only just received this letter. It's under review," said Christine Falvey, Mayor Lee's press secretary.

The bid requirements include 45,000 hotel rooms, an Olympic Village and a workforce of up to 200,000.
Former Olympic gold medalist in swimming, Anne Warner Cribbs, heads the Bay Area Sports Organizing committee that was involved in the last two bids. "The Olympic spirit continues to be alive and well in the San Francisco Bay Area. We've got a lot of Olympians. We've got a great city. We'd like to host the world at some point," she said.
Cribbs said she thinks that "third time's a charm" if San Francisco and the Bay Area does end up submitting a bid for the 2024 summer games.
