San Francisco Ranks Last In List Of Cities For Singles Looking To Find Love
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The City by the Bay appears to not be the optimum city to find love this Valentine's Day, according to research from Facebook.
San Francisco is dead last in a ranking of best and worst cities for singles finding a romantic partner, based on residents indicating a relationship change on their Facebook status.
Facebook measured those who identified themselves as 'single' at the beginning of October 2013 and those who identified as 'in a relationship' at the end of that month.
Colorado Springs had the most users who changed their status from single, while San Francisco ranked 48th out of 48.
The Wall Street Journal cited social scientists and residents of Colorado Springs who say the city may rank high on the relationship scale because of strong military and religious communities that help promote committed relationships.
Justin Garcia, researcher at the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction told the Journal that San Francisco and other big cities such as New York and Los Angeles which ranked lowest may have too much to choose from.
"Sometimes when you're in a big city and there are thousands and thousands of people you might find attractive, it becomes so overwhelming that you don't engage in the dating culture at all," Garcia told the WSJ.
San Francisco and other big cities had high rates of single people, but low couple rates. The city also ranked 48th in ratio to single females to single males.
