San Francisco Preps Storm Drains In Anticipation Of Flooding In Mission District
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- San Francisco is scrambling to prepare for a powerful storm in an area of the city notorious for flooding during heavy rain.
Contractors have been setting up floodgates, and plugging up drains inside of businesses in the city's Mission District, in an area hard hit by flooding in the past.
Drains backed up during heavy rain when the city's pipe system was overwhelmed, flooding the Stable Café with water and raw sewage.

"This is the fifth time it's flooded in four years. The whole street's been under water," Willem Dersjant of Euro Design and Construction said.
The area was built on a lagoon and Mission Creek. When the rain flows downhill it pools in the area. The city has overhauled some pipes, but just last week Shashank Samala says rain filled the robotics firm where he works.
"It was pretty bad. We had water up to about eight inches up," Samala said.
