San Francisco Police Make Arrest In Bomb Threat Hoax At SF Culinary School
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – San Francisco Police have made an arrest in a bomb threat hoax at the International Culinary School at The Art Institute of California, which shut down part of Market Street for several hours on Wednesday.
Following an investigation, police arrested 19-year-old Jesus Ivan Yerena of San Francisco. He was cited and released for a misdemeanor offense of placing a false or facsimile bomb.
Police responded to the 1100 block of Market Street around 11:00 a.m. on May 7 on reports of a bomb threat at the culinary school. Officers were directed to the 6th floor of the Culinary Academy and found a suspicious device consisting of a timer with a threatening note taped to a locker.
The college was evacuated and traffic was shut down for several hours in both directions of Market Street. The San Francisco Police Department Explosive Ordinance Unit responded to the scene and determined the device did not pose a threat.
Police have not released a possible motive for the suspect.
