San Francisco Muni Drivers May Not Get Year-End Bonuses
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Transit operators who work for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency may not be getting their year-end bonuses this year.
The bonuses, which come from a special trust fund established for transit operators, have paid workers as much as $3,000 in recent years.
But with the agency facing another deficit in the coming fiscal year, Muni officials want to cancel the payments.
Muni spokesman Paul Rose said the bonuses would cost the agency about $3.5 million this year.
But Rafael Cabrera, acting president of Transport Workers Union Local 250-A, said that the MTA has a "legal obligation" to fund the special trust fund.
Cabrera said there will be what he termed a "legal fight" over the issue.
