San Francisco Mayor Lee Puts Leadership In Place For America's Cup
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee is reiterating his commitment to the city's hosting of the America's Cup in 2013. A newly formed management structure will ensure the yachting race goes off without a hitch.

An executive steering committee for the America's Cup will ensure smooth sailing for the elite yacht race, and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee says that committee will be made up of employees from Public Works, the Planning Department and the Port, whose tenants could be forced out of current locations.
"They've really communicated very well to their tenants," said Lee. "Obviously this will move things around a bit, and I'm paying attention to that and working very closely with the Port to make sure they fulfill all of their obligations."
There is still a lot of work to be done, and as chair of the organizing committee Mark Buell explains, a lot of fundraising as well.
"Our committee is going to raise about $30 million in the next three years to host the event in San Francisco, and we're committed to helping the event committee raise another $270 million to put on the regattas that lead up to the America's Cup," said Buell.
