1 Dead In Multi-Car Crash In San Francisco's Marina District
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – One person has died from critical injuries after a multi-vehicle crash in San Francisco's Marina District late Thursday morning hurt five people, according to police.
The crash was reported at 11:43 a.m. at Lombard and Divisadero streets, police spokeswoman Officer Giselle Talkoff said.
Three people were transported to the hospital and one of those patients, a male, has since died, police Officer Grace Gatpandan said.
One female patient remains in the hospital in critical condition, and a male patient is in serious condition, Gatpandan said.
Two other people suffered less serious injuries.
Streets in the area were blocked off while emergency crews responded to the scene. The investigation led to a five-hour closure of a stretch of Lombard Street.
The closure created a massive traffic jam in the neighborhood as cars crawled through the detours around the area heading to and from the Golden Gate Bridge.
Lombard Street reopened to traffic at around 4:30 p.m., but the block of Divisadero north of Lombard remained closed as the investigation continued, even after the mangled vehicles were removed.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no arrests have been made as of Thursday afternoon, Gatpandan said.
