Numerous Road Closures, Transit Detours For San Francisco Marathon
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Numerous streets will be closed and transit service will be impacted throughout San Francisco on Sunday as tens of thousands of runners participate in the San Francisco Marathon.
According to a statement from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, the marathon will begin from The Embarcadero and Mission Street starting at 5:30 a.m.
Runners will go north along The Embarcadero, through the Presidio and to Golden Gate Bridge. Participants will then head to Golden Gate Park before crossing through several neighborhoods including the Haight and Mission District. The race will finish back on The Embarcadero.
Roads will be closed in neighborhoods throughout San Francisco through the early afternoon. The marathon will also impact fans attending Sunday's game between the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals at AT&T Park.
A full list of street closures and detours can be found on the marathon website.
More than two dozen Muni routes will be impacted during the marathon with some lines being rerouted. The SFMTA website has more information about transit impacts connected to the race.
People planning to use BART this weekend heading into San Francisco should also expect delays, as the tracks between the Glen Park and Daly City stations will be closed for repairs from early Saturday morning to late Sunday night. Buses will transport passengers between the two stations.
The Balboa Park BART station will also be closed this weekend.
