San Francisco Man Robbed Near City College, Home Also Burglarized
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A man who was robbed on a street near City College of San Francisco on Tuesday night went home an hour later to find his house had also been burglarized, a police spokesman said.
The robbery was reported around 9:20 p.m. near the intersection of Gennessee Street and Staples Avenue.
The 41-year-old victim was approached by two suspects, one of whom pulled out a handgun and demanded his property, police said.
The victim handed over his car keys, wallet, cellphone and a computer to the suspects, who ran away with the items.
The victim, who was not injured, reported the robbery to police, then about an hour later went to his home near the intersection of Clement Street and Eighth Avenue in the city's Richmond District, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
When he arrived, the victim discovered that the home had been burglarized, with a Playstation game console, Blu-Ray player and three Nikon cameras missing, police said.
The victim said there appeared to be no forced entry into the home. Rather, it appeared that someone had used a key to open the front door, Esparza said.
Esparza said investigators on Wednesday were trying to determine if the same suspects were responsible for the robbery and burglary, and that the incident could serve as a lesson to other victims of robberies.
"We advise victims of robberies to contact police immediately, and also to contact their credit card company and a locksmith," he said. "Robbers will have your address, so that can prevent those things from happening."
The suspects were both described as black men who were about 6 feet tall and wore a black puffy coat and blue jeans. One of the men appeared to be in his early to mid 20s, Esparza said.
