A 21-year-old Santa Rosa man was charged over a high-speed crash that killed two women earlier this week in San Francisco, according to prosecutors.

Elliot Patrick faces charges of two counts of murder, one count of reckless driving with an allegation that it caused injury, and three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury with allegations that he caused great bodily injury.

Police said that around 1:20 a.m. Monday, officers were alerted to a report of a vehicle collision involving injuries in the area of Grafton Avenue and Jules Avenue in the city's Ingleside District. Officers arrived and found two vehicles involved in a major crash.

Two women in one of the involved vehicles suffered life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, both were declared dead at the scene.

The second involved vehicle had four adult occupants. Three of them were sent to the hospital, with one suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Patrick, the driver of the second involved vehicle, was arrested after police determined he was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

"This case is a tragic reminder that drinking, driving and speeding are a lethal combination with devastating impacts," District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a prepared statement.

Prosecutors said they requested Patrick to be detained pending trial due to the public safety risk he poses.

Anyone with information about the deadly crash is asked to contact police at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to "TIP411" and begin the text message with "SFPD".
