Giants World Series Trophy Flies First Class To New York City
SAN FRANCISCO INT'L AIRPORT (KPIX 5) – Fresh off another World Series win, the latest trophy won by the San Francisco Giants was flown first class across the country to New York City on Wednesday, the team's original home.
The trophy, which the Giants won last October, was on a Virgin America flight that left San Francisco International Airport for New York's JFK Airport Wednesday morning.
Sitting next to the trophy was team president and CEO Larry Baer. When asked about the Giants winning three World Series in five yars, Baer said, "Never gets old. This is a fun companion, having the trophy next to us on the flight. We have been lucky enough to make this a biannual event. Let's make it an annual event, that's our goal, to take the trophy back to our roots every year after winning."
Baer said the Giants received approval from both the New York Yankees and New York Mets for the East Coast leg of the trophy tour. The Giants moved to San Francisco from New York in 1958.
On Saturday, the trophy will make an appearance at Finnerty's sports bar in Manhattan. The following day, it will make a stop at the Yogi Berra Museum in Little Falls, New Jersey. Fans will be able to snap photos with the trophy during both events.
The trophy will return to the Bay Area next week, with a stop in Antioch set for next Tuesday.
