Giants World Series Parade Forecast: Prepare To Get Wet

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) – Unlike the celebrations in 2010 and 2012, San Francisco Giants fans planning to attend Friday's World Series victory parade and celebration in San Francisco should prepare for rain.

The latest computer model forecast Thursday night has delayed the start of the heaviest rain to mid-morning Friday in San Francisco. Previous computer models predicted the front would pass earlier in the morning.

A later start also means a later finish, and that will impact hundreds of thousands of Giants fans planning on celebrating the team's World Series victory.

The forecast now calls for rain to keep falling through at least 1-2 p.m., meaning the majority of the parade will likely be wet. Fans should plan on bringing an umbrella, jacket, poncho, boots, or any combination of these to stay warm and dry.

Timeline based on Thursday night's computer model:

  • 7-9 a.m. – Rain begins in San Francisco.
  • 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. – Rain becomes steady as front approaches.
  • 12-2 p.m. – Rain slowly tapers off but it likely remains soggy.

The driest part of the day will likely be mid-afternoon, but showers will quickly increase come trick-or-treat time as cold & unstable air filters in behind the front.

As in previous years, Giants players, coaches and staff will travel from the corner of Market and Stuart Streets to Civic Center Plaza, where a rally will take place. The parade is set to begin around noon.

It won't be a Halloween washout Friday night, but anybody with plans to be outside should be prepared with an umbrella to go along with their costume. Showers – and an isolated thunderstorm – are likely.
