San Francisco Giants Counterfeit Souvenirs Donated To Charity
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Counterfeit souvenirs that were confiscated during the San Francisco Giants' World Series run last year are being put to good use; they're being given to charity.
Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confiscated about 2,400 items, including shirts and hats, around AT&T Park during the playoffs last year. The items were taken because they didn't have the requisite license from Major League Baseball.
Assistant ICE Special Agent Anthony Ho said if the items were licensed, they would have been worth about $150,000.
"This was a direct result of efforts by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement investigators, who literally went out on the street and found these shirts being sold by vendors," said Ho. "After further examination, they discovered that all of these items were counterfeit and subject to seizure."
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
The items are being given to World Vision to be distributed to the children of Haiti.
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.
