San Francisco Gamers Delight At 'Call Of Duty' Midnight Release
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Plenty of Bay Area video game enthusiasts likely spent the early hours of Tuesday morning wide awake, following the midnight release of the latest installment in the Call of Duty series, Modern Warfare 3.
Dozens of hardcore fans lined up outside the Union Square GameStop, a nationwide video game retailer, hours ahead of the release.
"I was planning on this since like, a while ago, since I heard Modern Warfare 3 was going to e released. I knew I was going to be in line for it," said one of the people waiting online.
KCBS' Chris Filippi Reports:
The series is a first-person military shooting style of game with a loyal following, in part because friends can compete with one another online.
"People you play with," another young man speculated about the popularity of Modern Warfare 3. "You know it's make or break with the community and if the community is good, you know if it's not good, it'll die."
Last year's Call of Duty, Black Ops, is the best-selling video game of all time, with more than 25 million copies sold.
