San Francisco Firefighter Accused Of DUI, Hit-&-Run On The Job
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — An on-duty San Francisco firefighter was arrested on suspicion of DUI and leaving the scene of a collision that occurred while he was driving a fire truck late Saturday night, police said on Monday.
Police identified the firefighter as 43-year-old Michael Quinn. The firefighter has been put on unpaid suspension according to fire department spokeswoman Lt. Mindy Talmadge. The District Attorney is reviewing possible criminal charges.
Talmadge said the department tested Quinn for alcohol and the results were positive.
The collision, which involved the fire truck and a motorcycle, happened at about 11:30 p.m. at Fifth and Howard streets in the city's South of Market neighborhood, police said
The fire truck was responding to an emergency call with its lights and siren activated when it struck the motorcyclist, who was seriously injured but is expected to survive, according to police.
According to Talmadge the fire and police department are conducting separate investigations of the incident.
Sheriff's department spokeswoman Susan Fahey said Quinn was no longer in custody as of Monday morning.
