San Francisco Fire Crews Mop Up After 2 Stubborn Fires
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – It was a busy Saturday night for San Francisco firefighters, who battled two stubborn fires, one in the Tenderloin and another in Potrero Hill.
Marty Ross, a temporary division chief for the San Francisco Fire Department, said the first fire started in a unit of a 12-story public housing building on Ellis and Jones streets around 5:20 p.m.
"The fire was on the fifth floor, Room 5A. It did go out the window and then came around and came into the lobby somehow," Ross said. "That's a tough building because it's all concrete. We ended up transporting nine people due to smoke inhalation and burns."
Investigators have yet to determine a cause for the blaze, which displaced about 200 people.
Later on Saturday night around 10:15 p.m., a fire broke out at a three-story wooden building on 24th and Utah streets.
Crews were quickly able to knock down the fire, but it did spread to two other adjacent buildings.
No injuries were reported in that fire.
