San Francisco City College Trustees Lose Power
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS / AP) -- City College of San Francisco's elected Board of Trustees has been stripped of its authority and replaced by a "special trustee" with unilateral powers to try and save the school from losing accreditation a year from now.
California Community Colleges Chancellor Brice Harris informed the board Monday that it had moved too slowly to turn the school around.
Harris named Robert Agrella as special trustee with decision-making powers over the school's finances. Agrella has served as special trustee, but in an advisory role. He declined to comment.
Last week regulators notified trustees that the college of 85,000 students will lose accreditation on July 31, 2014.
The commission said City College had satisfied only two of the 14 recommendations needed to meet accreditation standards, and that its money management and governance problems remain severe.
