San Francisco Celebrities Compete In Crab Cracking Contest
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Crab season is in full swing, and at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco Thursday, chefs were paired with local celebrities in a crab cracking contest for charity. The contest, sponsored by the Fisherman's Wharf Community Benefit District, is now in its second year.
KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:
Ten teams of two got cracking at #9 Fishermen's Grotto, with defending champ Executive Sous Chef from Bistro Boudin, Misael Reyes winning for the second year.
"The meat on the leg is the heavy part, so you have to start from there," said Reyes, who was paired this year with San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Kevin Jurovich.
"Not only did I have a pro with me today, but if you would have seen the plate of crab that he had, you would have seen that he could have won on his own," said Jurovich. "I had a great partner and this is just a great event, and I'm happy to be a part of it."
Jurovich selected the group City Team of San Jose, which works with recovering drug addicts to receive the $1,000 winnings. It's a charity close to Jurovich's heart because his brother went through the program.
