San Francisco Audio Store Owner Gets Last Laugh After Thieves Smash Truck Through Front Door, Steal Equipment
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A San Francisco audio store owner was picking up the pieces after thieves drove a pick-up truck through the front door and stole thousands of dollars in equipment early Sunday morning.
Harmony Audio & Video owner Frank Mari said the crash brought his security gate to its knees before the thieves stole pricey stereo systems right out of the showroom.
"A pair of those is $15,000. I feel like I've been – what's the word for it – violated in some form or another," Mari said.
Mari estimated the thieves stole anywhere from $25,000 to $40,000 worth of equipment.
Nearby resident Nancy Tarantino was awoken when she heard the truck crash into the shop.
"Heard a huge boom, which we both thought was an earthquake at first," Tarantino said.
Despite the damage and losses, Mari says he will have the last laugh after the thieves failed to take the second half of an expensive matching pair of pieces.
"They're only sold as matched pairs, so they are rather useless as a single item," Mari said.
