San Francisco Apartment Fire Leaves 20 Homeless
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – A one-alarm fire displaced several residents at a San Francisco apartment building Sunday morning.
The fire broke out around 8:00 a.m. at a six-story building on Eddy Street, between Jones and Leavenworth. San Francisco Assistant Fire Chief Bob Postel said it was a difficult fire to contain, as it spread through all six floors of the building.
KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:
"We have about 20 people that will be displaced just because we had to open up the walls from the inside of their units to expose this light well from both sides," said Postel. "Red Cross is going to help."
He said one person was taken to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, but no firefighters were injured.
Sean Means, who lives on the first floor of the building, said he exited as quickly as possible.
"I looked in the bathroom window and saw fire just pouring down from the inside window," he said. "There was just fire dropping into the light well. We just ran out and pulled the alarm."
Fire investigators are still trying to determine what caused the blaze.
