San Diego Invites Married Same-Sex Couples To Renew Vows
SAN DIEGO (KCBS/AP) - Gay couples will be allowed to renew their marriage vows at San Diego County's Valentine's Day Tradition on the Bay.
Same-sex couples who married during the six months when California legalized their unions will be welcome at the annual event, county officials said. They can pay $50 for a renewal ceremony at the County Administration Center.
KNX's Tom Reopelle Reports:
County assessor and clerk Ernest Dronenburg says he asked the county counsel's office about the legality of permitting same-sex marrieds to take part and was told the law permits it.
Thousands of gay men and lesbians married in 2008 after a court ruling permitted their legal unions but voter-approved Proposition 8 banned gay marriage later that year. That measure is being challenged in court.
