San Bruno Neighbors Call For Pipeline Removal
SAN BRUNO (KCBS) - Not all residents displaced by the deadly San Bruno explosion and fire are ready to rebuild. Meanwhile, PG&E is embarking on a plan to improve pipeline safety as calls continue for the utility to move the pipeline.
Bill Magoolaghan's house is uninhabitable, partially burned, and full of mold from the water used to fight the fire as well as asbestos. The roof is being replaced.
"We're still deciding what to do, and a big factor in that decision is whether the pipeline stays, or whether it's going to be shut down or moved," said Magoolaghan.
The father of four says he doesn't want to live on edge.
"It will be interesting to see the settlement from PG&E, and if it will include removal, or something else about that pipe," said Magoolaghan.
President of PG&E, Chris Johns meanwhile, unveiled plans for pipeline safety that include modernizing pipelines, and more automatic shutoff valves.
"It's going to include offering personalized gas transmission maps to customers, and augmenting our outreach to schools," said Johns.
PG&E also plans to give communities, public officials and first responders detailed information on pipeline locations.
