Salvation Army Delivers Meals To San Francisco Residents
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) _ Hundreds of volunteers are helping the Salvation Army deliver thousands of Thanksgiving meals to elderly and sick residents in San Francisco.
Some of the volunteers were busy Thursday morning shoveling ice and preparing food for the meals. Others visited those who can't get out on their own.
"One thing for many of them, they wouldn't have that opportunity to share Thanksgiving with anybody," said Salvation Army Harbor Lights Center Executive Director Jack Clitheroe.

He said there is plenty of food available for everyone.
"We've got turkey, we've got stuffing, green beans, gravy," Clitheroe said.
Many of the volunteers are like Francis Pena from Vallejo, who was once a Salvation Army client.
"I did have Salvation Army help me, where they will help you pay for your PG&E, they have a program for that," she said. "I've struggled for Thanksgiving and so the church has donated my turkey."
The seniors and shut-ins get Thanksgiving dinner and the volunteers get thanks for giving their time.
