Man Fatally Shot Outside Home Near Salinas
SALINAS (CBS SF) -- Monterey County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting Saturday afternoon near Salinas that left a man dead.
Deputies responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the first block of Hartnell Road, south of Salinas, at about 4:05 p.m., according to the sheriff's office.
When deputies arrived, they found a 35-year-old male lying in a dirt driveway dead of an apparent gunshot wound, sheriff's officials said.
An investigation revealed that there had been a private birthday party at the home where the man was found, but he was not a member of the party, according to sheriff's officials.
The man's name has not yet been released.

The California Highway Patrol assisted in the response of the shooting.
