Salesforce Posts 'Thank You Indiana' Video Following Change To Religious Freedom Law
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Less than two weeks after the CEO of Salesforce implored business leaders to pull out of Indiana in protest of a new religious freedom law, the company is thanking state lawmakers for changing the legislation.
On March 26th, CEO Marc Benioff said he had directed his company to 'cancel all programs' in the state after Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed into law a religious objections bill that some business leaders have opposed amid concern it could allow discrimination against and denial of service to homosexuals.
Prominent Bay Area companies, including GAP, Apple Inc., Twitter and others followed Benioff's call to condemn the law. They were joined by lawmakers in San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley, among other cities.
Pence said that kind of discrimination was not the intention of the law and signed a clarifying amendment late last week prohibiting service providers from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Cities have since backed off of travel bans to Indiana, and Benioff is now using his Twitter account to congratulate the state on changing the law.
And on Monday, the company released a video on its YouTube channel invoking the battle for political recognition embodied by San Francisco lawmaker Harvey Milk.
