Saint Mary's College Student Jailed On Rape Charges
MORAGA (CBS SF) - An 18-year-old Saint Mary's College student was arrested at his dorm in Moraga on Sunday on suspicion of raping another student at the school, Moraga police said.
The victim reported the incident to campus security between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Sunday, said Michael McAlpin, director of media relations for the college.
According to Moraga police, who responded to the school at about 3:30 a.m., the victim said she had been sexually assaulted in another student's dorm room within the past hour. She provided details about the alleged assault and identified her assailant, police said.
She was then taken to Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez where she was treated and examined, police said.
At about 12:15 p.m., police arrested 18-year-old Nicholas Conzachi, a sophomore, at his dorm on campus on suspicion of rape, police said.
He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility and is being held on $100,000 bail, police said.
McAlpin said students were notified of the incident after Conzachi was arrested.
Campus security has not received any other reports of similar assaults, and McAlpin said the case appears to be an isolated incident.
"Any type of assault against a student or any community member is taken very seriously," McAlpin said.
He said school officials immediately turned the investigation over to Moraga police, but that they would be continuing to provide any information investigators need.
