Sacramento Area School Buses To Use GPS Devices To Track Kids
SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- School buses in two Sacramento area districts are going high-tech.
The Folsom Cordova Unified School District will soon install bar-code readers linked to GPS tracking on 78 buses.
The nearly 2,000 students boarding the buses will be able to swipe a card that will allow the school district to tell where and when a child got on or off.
Buses within Twin Rivers Unified School District will have GPS tracking along with digital video and audio recording systems. The onboard recorders can be viewed remotely in real time. And if trouble breaks out, drivers can mark the spot in the recording for quick review later.
The advanced technology soon will be available that can alert bus drivers when a child gets on the wrong bus or off at the wrong school.
