Sacramento 5-Day Event Aims To Help Struggling Homeowners Avoid Foreclosure
SACRAMENTO (AP) - Thousands of people are lining up outside the state fairgrounds in Sacramento for a five-day event to help distressed homeowners avoid foreclosure.
The line stretched at least half a mile Friday as people from around the state came to talk with financial counselors from the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America.
The Sacramento event is expected to draw as many as 40,000 people seeking help renegotiating their loans, cutting interest rates and restructuring their mortgages.
Paul Salcido of Fresno County said he was willing to do anything to keep his home: "I have a job. I want to pay."
NACA CEO Bruce Marks said the demand is so great, the group could probably be open for 365 days and it still wouldn't be enough.
