Rohnert Park Man Killed In Crash On Hwy 101

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- A 22-year-old Rohnert Park man was killed in a crash on U.S. Highway 101 in Marin County Sunday morning, a California Patrol Officer said.

The crash was reported on northbound Highway 101 just south of the Sonoma County line at about 7:45 a.m., CHP Officer Eric Hohmeister said.

For unknown reasons, the driver allowed his 1993 Honda Civic to drift into the dirt in the center divider, Hohmeister said. He apparently overcorrected the car, and swerved across two lanes of traffic toward the right-hand shoulder.

The victim, who was wearing a seatbelt, crashed through a guardrail on the right shoulder and the vehicle landed in a ditch.

No other vehicles were involved, according to the CHP.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity was not released until his family could be notified.

Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
