Rock Slide East Of Sacramento Delays Amtrak Trains
COLFAX, Placer County (CBS / AP) -- Two Amtrak trains carrying hundreds of passengers are rolling again or getting ready to roll after being delayed for several hours by a rock slide in Placer County.
Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds said Friday's delay was caused by the slide which had stalled a freight train on a shared track near Colfax. The town is located about 50 miles northeast of Sacramento.
After a nine hour delay, the train en route from Emeryville to Chicago carrying 257 people resumed its journey.
She said a train traveling from Chicago to Emeryville with 185 passengers was just about to start again.
A Sacramento TV station reported that the trains began moving once crews cleared the track.
