Two Of Four Robbery Suspects Arrested After Police Search Backs Up Hwy 580
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Two armed robbery suspects were detained after crashing their alleged getaway vehicle in Oakland Monday afternoon and attempting to flee on foot, according to police.
The robbery was reported around 3:15 p.m. in the 500 block of 23rd Street.
Responding officers determined that a group of victims had been robbed at gunpoint and obtained descriptions of the suspects and suspect vehicle.
That vehicle crashed while exiting eastbound Interstate Highway 580 near 98th Avenue, and officers watched four suspects exit the vehicle and flee the scene on foot, according to police.
The subsequent search led to traffic congestion on eastbound Highway 580.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to assist in the search, closing down the right two lanes of the roadway, according to the CHP.
Canine units and a police helicopter were also called to the scene to assist in the search, according to police.
Two of the four suspects were detained. Officers were also able to recover some of what was stolen from the victims, police said.
